Wye Valley Brewery & Leggers Visit

I had a very interesting visit in both places. The Leggers shop was very useful, giving us an insight of where our final packaging design would be displayed, besides the supermarkets. I was quite pleased that I had the opportunity to buy couple of products that are using the Wye Valley Brewery beers as a condiment so I could study them in detail in terms measurement, design, typography and how would they go with the beers in the package. Unfortunately, the people from Leggers couldn't give us too much information about their products or the people's opinion about them, but being there and having a look with my eyes was helpful. A couple of examples of their products:

The Wye Valley was the place that we all wanted to see. All the information that I gathered is very useful and the key "ingredient" to our designs. Before telling us about the history of their family business his first sentence was "Keep it local", a sentence that is going to influence me the most through my designing journey that I will have. We also had a look at their process of creating the beer. They are are putting a lot of work and effort in creating their family beer and they are all doing it with passion, a design consideration that we all should be aware of. Their passion needs to be reflected by our packaging design. Also a couple of examples from the site visit:

Design considerations:

  • showing that their beer would work with a food recipe
  • qr codes
  • keep it local in terms of illustrations
  • sustainability
  • gift package
  • design for 2 beers and a condiment/ 2 condiments and 1 beer
  • audience
  • competitors
  • typography
  • the design can be easily displayed on the shelf (it needs to stand)
  • easy and safe to transport
  • the products can be seen through the design
  • easily taken from the shelfs by customers
